About Our School
Welcome to Cawthorne’s Endowed School’s Website
Our school is situated in an idyllic location in the Forest of Bowland, within an area of outstanding natural beauty, and at the centre of the village of Abbeystead. The school has a very long history. It was founded by William Cawthorne in 1664 and has been educating children ever since.
We are proud of our small size (maximum of 6 children per year group) as this means children receive individul attention which is modified to their needs, and are educated within a supportive, family atmosphere. We carefully monitor every child’s progress and give support to children when needed so we ensure everyone makes progress. Community is important to us and every child has a valuable contribution to make. Please contact us and make an appointment to come and see us at work.

Our Values and Ethos
We take our mission statement from our Latin ‘veldoce, veldisce, veldescede’ Motto: We teach each other, we learn together, we leave prepared.
We believe that all children are entitled to develop to their full potential. We aim to do this by allowing children to work together irrespective of their backgrounds.
Children are taught in a broad Christian Ethos and all children have the same opportunities regardless of faith.
We will aim to prepare children academically, spiritually and socially for their lives both inside and outside the classroom.
We work together as Governors, staff, parents and children to achieve these aims.
