Key Stage 1 is made up from a small group of children in year 1 & 2. They are taught by Mrs Unsworth, Mrs Oram and Mrs Harkin.

The school day starts at 9am and in the morning the children jump straight into phonics, using Red Rose Phonics, the children enjoy the fast paced, exciting structure of the scheme. Following this, the children have mathematics, we use White Rose Maths and Fluency Bee alongside enrichment from Numberblocks, we especially enjoy learning the songs they use. After break, they learn English, this is taught in a mixed age group of year 1 & 2, our small class sizes mean we can focus on each child as an individual throughout all of our lessons.

Lunch is from 12pm until 1pm and in the afternoons the Infants have wide ranging, carefully constructed curriculum which includes; Topic, Music, Geography, History, Science, RE, PSHE and Art.

The children benefit from having a highly qualified PE specialist to teach PE each Monday and come to school prepared in their PE kits to maximise teaching time, each Thursday afternoon, all children from Reception onwards attend swimming lessons at Lancaster University, we believe it is so important for them to be safe near water.

On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday the children have an assembly, focusing on numerous topics and themes from 3.15pm and the school day finishes at 3.30pm.

The infants read every day with an adult and choose from a large range of books which are carefully matched to their phonics phase. In Year 2, the children are able to choose their reading books more freely, using Accelerated Reader to find the books most suitable to their reading ability.
