Key Stage 1 is made up from a small group of children in year 1 & 2. They are taught by Mrs Unsworth, Mrs Harkin, Mrs Ayrton and Mrs Fairclough.
The school day starts at 9am and in the morning they have daily English lessons. After break they have maths where they follow the White Rose Maths Scheme.
Lunch is from 12pm until 1pm and in the Afternoons the Infants have wide ranging curriculum which includes; Topic, Music, Geography, History, Science, RE, PSHE and Art. The children in Key Stage 1 are taught daily phonics using Letters and Sounds and Read Write Inc. These short sessions aim to enable the children to recognise sounds for reading, progressing on to spelling for reading later in Year 2.
The children benefit from having a highly qualified PE specialist to teach PE each Monday and come to school prepared in their PE kits to maximise teaching time. Every day the children have an assembly, focusing on numerous topics and themes from 3.15pm and the school day finishes at 3.30pm.
The infants read every day with an adult and choose from a large range of books suitable for their reading age from Oxford Reading Tree and Songbirds. In Year 2, the children are able to complete quizzes to check their understanding of the text. The website for book quizzes is available here.
